Review of Child Friendly Schools in Myanmar
Project Title: Independent Review of QBEP’s Child Friendly Schools / Language Enrichment Programme Location: Myanmar Client: UNICEF Date: October 2017 - April 2018
The Child Friendly School Training and Language Enrichment Programs were initiated by UNICEF, beginning in 2001. The project is made up of a number of in-service teacher training programs focused on strengthening rights-based child-friendly pedagogy and increasing student learning. Since that time, Myanmar’s political and educational context has changed significantly; including the development of a Teacher Competency Framework, the passing of the National Education Law of 2014, and the Ministry of Education’s drafting of the National Education Strategic Plan (NESP).
Montrose carried out a review to evaluate the effectiveness of the Child Friendly School initiatives to date. Additionally, the review was intended to guide the Ministry of Education’s future in-service teacher training content and modalities into a “minimum content/package” of in-service teacher training, which is in line with the Teacher Competency Framework currently under finalization.
