Assessment of social investment context
Project Title: Social Investment Context and Options Study Location: Myanmar Client: Private sector client Date: October 2015 – February 2016
Montrose was contracted to provide a Social Investment Context and Options Study in Myanmar to guide the direction of the client’s future social investment planning.
Montrose was contracted to provide a concise report summarising the social investment (SI) context in Myanmar, with a focus on the client’s targeted geographies and preferred investment sectors. The purpose of the study was twofold. Firstly, to present a snapshot overview of the context in which the client will plan future social investments from the point of view of multiple stakeholders, including government, civil society, NGOs, politicians, and other private sector actors. Secondly, to provide an analysis of social investment options, given the mapped context, in terms of balancing likely social impact with the client’s corporate objectives, risks, and cost.
Montrose provided the client with a concise report summarising the social investment context in Myanmar, and presenting a social investment options analysis which the client can use as a foundation to inform more detailed strategic social investment planning in Myanmar. The report looks into the Myanmar government policy, regulatory environment, regional and township level, economic/developmental, and stakeholder context of social investment at present. It also presents a short overview of the work of NGOs, focussed on the client’s targeted geographies and preferred investment sectors. The report concludes with an analysis of potential SI areas against client objectives, risks, and cost; and recommendations on the way forward.
